Sustainability Practices

Bhutan

At Shomo Chuki Resort, we believe that true hospitality goes hand in hand with environmental stewardship and respect for local communities. Our sustainability initiatives focus on reducing our environmental footprint through responsible resource management, energy conservation, waste reduction, and water-saving practices. We encourage the use of reusable materials, minimize single-use plastics whenever possible, and promote responsible waste segregation and recycling.

Energy Conservation

  • Utilizing energy-efficient LED lighting
  • Use of solar lamps for outdoor lighting
  • Using energy-efficient appliances and equipment
  • Immediately turning off the geysers, heater and other electrical appliances after guests check out

Water Saving Practices

  • Advising staff and guest to turn off the water tabs to avoid wastage of water.
  • Encouraging guests to conserve water by minimizing the daily replacement of linens and towels using tent cards and proper signage
  • Place “Save Water” and “Save Energy” stickers in guest rooms and public restrooms to promote environmental awareness and encourage responsible resource usage

Waste Reduction

  • Encouraging staff to dispose of PET bottles using designated PET bottle vending machines to support proper recycling practice.
  • Composting food waste and often giving away food waste to piggery
  • Replace bottled shampoos and body washes with refillable dispensers for shampoo and bath foam to reduce plastic waste
  • Digital invoices and paperless office works.
  • Minimising daily replacement of linens and towels can also reduce hundreds of pounds of detergent

We take pride in supporting the local economy by sourcing fresh produce and ingredients from nearby farmers and local suppliers, helping sustain livelihoods within our community.
